Tyler Erb takes home the 2022 Gateway Dirt Nationals win overtaking Will Herrington late in the race before Herrington broke a J Bar ending his magnificent Gateway Dirt Nationals run. Front row starters Cody Bauer and Tanner English led the field to green. Bauer would jump out to the early race lead with Tanner following the brightly colored #19. Will Herrington jumped up to run the high side banging the cushion and flirting with the outside fence to take the lead away from Bauer. Herrington would hold a comfortable lead until a caution with about 8 laps to go would gather the field back up. When the green flag waved for the restart Tyler Erb , English , and Tyler Carpenter all were ready to pounce for the lead. Herrington clipped the outside wall a little too hard this time causing him to break his J Bar knocking him out of the $30,000 payday.

One last restart gave English and the rest of the field a chance to overtake The Best Performance Motorsports XR1 Rocket Chassis but "Turbo" smashed The Loud Pedal the final few laps to cross the checkers first ahead of English and Ricky Thornton Jr.

At the drop of the green young Michael Ledford , FALS Mod Track Champion , would jump out to the early race lead. The young "Leadfoot" held the lead until he would lose a driveshaft handing the lead over to Grabouski. The IMCA standout was trying hard to keep not only RTjr behind him but also Mike McKinney who joined the battle for the win.

Thornton would pull away from the other two as McKinney on the last lap would overtake Grabouski for the runner up spot from his 18th starting position. In victory lane Thornton talked about how good the Royal Racecar was and the only Royal Racecar there on the track. They might get some orders for the 2023 racing season because that car has been fast everywhere they have been.
