After two rainouts to start the Castrol FloRacing Night In America season it finally kicked off with a bang! Ricky Thornton Jr claimed the win after sliding leader Bobby Pierce 13 laps from the finish. Jason Feger finished second and Hudson O’Neal rounded out the podium.
27 cars signed into the tiny 1/5th high banked track of Macon Speedway with Feger setting fast time. Feger , fresh off his Saturday MARS win at FALS, would also win his heat race. Bobby Pierce and Garrett Smith collected the other two heat race wins. Shannon Babb won the B Main.
Piece from the outside front row jumped out to the lead that would hold until the lap 37 slider by RTJ. The feature would see the yellow wave 12 times with a red flag after Myles Moos and Tyler Erb battling each other causing a pileup that collected Unzicker , Babb , Shirley, Alberson , Little ,and Brandon Sheppard. Sheppard ending up on his roof sitting on top of Garrett Alberson's car. Brian Shirley ended up on his side. All drivers were okay but Brian Shirley suffered a laceration that was believed to have occurred while assisting Sheppard.
Onto the pass for the win RTJ got a big run on Pierce and went for the slider into turn 2. Thornton would later say that he was anticipating Pierce to see him under him and cross over RTJ but instead stayed in the gas and spun out.
After the dust settled and the checkers waved there were very few drivers that left happy and only a few cars that loaded up with little damage but that's bullring racing. The mini series goes from the smallest track to one of the biggest fastest track at Eldora Speedway next Wednesday.
